9 Ways to Celebrate Yourself This Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day is right around the corner and, whether you have a significant other to sing your praises or not, you deserve to be celebrated. Day in and day out you kick butt and take names (and pack lunch, make dinner, fold laundry, change diapers, provide midnight feedings, and more). So whether you have the worlds most supportive significant other, or you are stumbling through your days in an invisibility cloak (because you’re a total badass even if you are invisible), here are a few ways that you can celebrate yourself this Mother’s Day.
**Some of these ideas can be done with your kid(s) or without – it’s totally up to you whether you bring them along! And remember, even though Mother’s Day is “officially” on Sunday May 12th this year, it doesn’t mean that’s when you have to celebrate it. If you want some mommy time or friend time sans kiddo, ask a friend or family member to babysit so you can go out, even if it means you have to celebrate your Mother’s Day on a different day. The idea is the same no matter what day you choose – you deserve to be celebrated!
Celebrate Yourself At Home
Let’s face it, you could dress like a “real person” or you could just stay home in your pjs…
Have an In-Home Spa Day (or hour, or whatever)
Spend some time pampering yourself! Whether you take a bubble bath, a hot shower, paint your nails, do a face mask, something different, or all of the above, take some time to do something that makes you feel relaxed and pampered. Sure, the other 364 days of the year you may appear disheveled and smell of stale milk, but that doesn’t mean you have to on Mother’s Day!
Sleep
Ah, beautiful, precious sleep. You barely remember what a good rest feels like, right? Maybe this is the only thing you really want. If that’s the case – go for it! If the kids are being cared for by someone else, throw on those pjs (or not) and hop into that cozy piece of heaven and snuggle in for a good rest!
At Home Wine Tasting
This may be best with a friend or two (or ten – you do you). Get together with some friends and each of you supply a bottle of wine – then do an in-home wine tasting. This is nice because it requires minimal effort on everyone’s part (though you may want to encourage snacks of some kind or momma is going to be tipsy).
Home Meal Delivery
Don’t feel like cooking and don’t want to leave the house? Have a meal (or every meal, for that matter) delivered to your house for the day. Save the cooking and cleaning for another day and just enjoy the fruits of someone else’s labor for a change.
Movie/Netflix Marathon/ Binge on Good Book
Sometimes the very best form of relaxation is to sink mindlessly into a good (or not) tv show, movie, or book. And let’s face it, motherhood does not exactly cater to our ability to binge on these things quite the same way we could pre-baby. So if this is your jam, enjoy it!
Go Out and Celebrate Yourself this Mother’s Day
Spa
Go out and get pampered – enjoy a nice massage and get those knots out of your back that have been building up since you were pregnant. Or get your nails done, enjoy a haircut, or blowout, or facial, or any number of options. Spend some time letting those responsibilities melt away for a little bit!
Have a Meal or Drink Out
We know that going out for drinks or a meal isn’t as easy as it once was. There are nap times to schedule around, baby sitters to hire, or a ridiculous number of items to ensure you have in a diaper bag. Just because it isn’t as easy as it once was, doesn’t mean it isn’t doable. So if you’ve been craving some time out and want a meal where someone else does the cooking, or you just want to grab a cocktail without having to make it yourself, then do it!
Workout Class
Find a class that sounds interesting (or one you already know you love) and sweat it out for a bit! And remember, you can do this on a day other than the “official” Mother’s Day – celebrate you when it works for you!
Coffee/Wine/Beer/Cocktail/Cider, etc. tasting
Are you a connoisseur already? Or are you looking to expand your palette (or just what you keep stashed in the kitchen)? Either way, going to a tasting may be perfect. They’re usually incredibly low-key and you can typically buy a bottle of whatever you like most and drink it on location! These tastings are great, too, because there are so many beverages that offer them. Not into alcohol? Check for a local coffee tasting near you! Not into wine? Check for a local brewery? There are lots of distilleries, breweries, wineries, etc. out there – find one to check out!
Whether you go out or stay in, one of the best things ever (in my opinion) is a clean house. So maybe, before your big day, hire someone to clean your house for you! That way you can either stay home and not have a nagging feeling like you should be doing something more productive with your time than pampering yourself (you shouldn’t). And if you go out, there really are few things better than coming home to a fresh, clean home! It’s a win-win!
So celebrate yourself this Mother’s Day, Momma! You’re doing an awesome job!
